Rosehip seed oil is nineteen percent of this bottle — the first ingredient, and more of it than anything else. Seven more oils sit around it: jojoba, argan, squalane, pomegranate, marula, raspberry seed and macadamia, with CoQ10 and vitamin E.

Three to five drops onto tacky skin, straight from the bottle. Gently rub into the face. It is thin enough to move on contact and it disappears into skin in a few minutes.

Skin looks softer and feels less tight.

Morning and night. Allow ten minutes if applying sunscreen.

How it is built. Every ingredient here holds a role, the way it would in a Chinese herbal formula — jun, chen, zuo, shi. The Ritual explains what each role means. A role describes an ingredient’s place in the formula; most of these are not Chinese herbs.

jun · Rosehip seed oil, 19% of the bottle. The reason the product exists, and first on its ingredient list. Its freshness on mixing day sets the printed date.

chen · Pomegranate seed, raspberry seed and macadamia. Three specialist oils, each chosen because it does not repeat what rosehip already gives.

zuo · Jojoba, argan, squalane and marula are the body of the formula. Squalane and marula were increased to keep it stable, and squalane is part of why something this rich does not feel heavy. CoQ10, a powder, is dissolved into warm jojoba before it goes in. Roman chamomile is added on its own, outside the scent blend.

shi · Vitamin E and rosemary extract guard the whole thing in the bottle.

The scent: frankincense is its jun; carrot seed and helichrysum its chen; jasmine, ylang ylang and geranium are zuo; lavender and neroli are the shi. Neroli opens it, jasmine sits underneath, frankincense holds it at the base.
