Over a third of this bottle is jojoba that has been infused with calendula and chamomile flowers — packed loose, covered in oil, and held in a warm water bath for 12 hours until the oil takes on their colour. It cannot be hurried and it cannot be bought ready-made. It is the reason this cleanser pours chiffon yellow rather than clear, and it is the single largest ingredient here.

Camellia, castor, argan and rosehip sit behind it.

Eight to twelve drops onto fingertips and face. Massage in circles for a minute. It loosens with warm water or a damp cloth, taking makeup and sunscreen with it.

Skin feels soft afterwards, not tight.

No water and no preservative. Morning and night, followed by Golden Mist Toner while your skin is still warm.

How it is built. Every ingredient here holds a role, the way it would in a Chinese herbal formula — jun, chen, zuo, shi. The Ritual explains what each role means. A role describes an ingredient’s place in the formula; most of these are not Chinese herbs.

jun · Calendula- and chamomile-infused jojoba, 35.5% of the bottle. The body of the cleanser and its largest ingredient. The flowers are infused into the jojoba here in Revelstoke, at 45–60 °C for twelve hours, before it is blended.

chen · Camellia seed oil. A second light oil beside the jojoba, so a large amount of oil does not feel heavy.

zuo · Castor oil gives the cleanse its slip and lets it lift away cleanly with a warm cloth. Argan is the richer oil in the mix, so skin feels soft rather than tight afterwards. Rosehip seed oil is kept deliberately low here; it earns its full amount in Soleil, which stays on the skin.

shi · Polysorbate 80 lets the oil release with warm water or a damp cloth, without a second wash. Vitamin E and rosemary extract keep the oils fresh in the bottle.

The scent is a formula within the formula: frankincense is its jun and carrot seed its chen; geranium, ylang ylang, jasmine, helichrysum and lavender are zuo; neroli is the shi.
